Orange (and Pink and blue)are the new black
We re-designed this bathroom in LB Kitchen’s Portland location as a seamless extension of the restaurant’s vibrant identity.
Are we obsessed with powder -coating? Just a little.
We’ve talked before (a lot) about our love of the details. As we began to focus more and more on the color blocking aspect of this project we wanted to look for ways we could make sure every detail was as monochromatic as possible. We worked with Portland Industrial Coatings on powder coating to match the various colors of our project to paper dispensers, mirrors, light fixtures and standing bars. Besides the aesthetic benefits, the intense powder coating process added longevity to our design. And a little extra durability to a heavily used commercial space.
Just a pop of color (blocking that is)
We wanted to use color blocking in this space to create visual impact and style. We chose colors that complimented each other as well as the existing design within the restaurant. We chose warm tones that popped both together and separately, which also lead to some intense coloring matching both in paint and powder coating color selection. But it was worth in to create a vibrant space to match the energetic environment of the restaurant.
Just a pop of color (blue)
After selecting our warn leaning color choices for tile and paint, we did want to create some color pops throughout the space. We chose a Concretti Monterey sink in Light Blue with an accompanying Sherwin Williams in Dew Drop color match for a custom painted West Elm cabinet. We loved how the blue gave a perfect amount of pop and contrast to the warm space.
Trial by fire (colored tile)
To create a clean look for our color blocked tile focus wall, we turned to Mod Walls and Tile Bar for 2 size variations of glass tiles. We used a 2”x8” tile from Tile Bar in Flame Orange for a vertical subway tile design coordinated with a 4”x4” square subway tile from Mod Walls in Afterglow for a chic accent wall that perfectly complimented the space. We went back and forth on grout options and discussed matching the colors but decided in the end that the white grout really made the color stand out.
